Days are getting shorter and the nectar flow has come to a close. Our colonies have overcome some mid-summer setbacks this year but don't have much honey reserves stored up, so we won't be harvesting any honey for ourselves. We have the syrup feeders back on the hives so the bees can try to pack on the pounds before winter. We've been monitoring for varroa mites and have no choice but to treat the colonies in hopes for their survival. We are trying a hops-based food-grade product, rather than subjecting the bees and the environment to harsh chemicals.
